Anotation: The aim of the course is familiarizing the students with the algorithm practical aspects of the structure and use of operating systems (OS). In particular way it is stopped on the multithread programming on  window operating system. The course is developed in the following arguments:

The C language, Multitasking,Communication and synchronization, File system in C.

The SOS (Support for Operating Systems Lab) virtual laboratory is integrating part of the corse and  is thought in order to help the students to experiment with the Linux operating system and consists of a training exercise on the Linux commands integrated in the web page of the Operating Systems course.

Anotation: The course studies operating systems and base software of modern computers. From a practical point of view, it covers the basic elements and specific realizations of operating systems in personal microcomputers. The course teaches students the main principles underlying the operating systems DOS, WINDOWS, LINUX, UNIX, NOVELL. It includes the following basic modules: Process Control in Computer Systems; Memory Control; Processor Control; Control of Computer System Units. The course is based on knowledge acquired from the courses in Higher Mathematics, Programming and Computer Organization. Its output is foundation for the courses in Computer Networks and Computer Architectures.

Anotation: The course aims at familiarizing the students with the practical aspets of the organization, structure and use of operating systems (OS). This aim is acieved through a comparative analysis of the main components of three different types of OS - single-user single-tasking, single-user multi-tasking, multi-user multi-tasking.The course is designed to provide a practical guide using as a basis the familiar OS of UNIX and Windows 2000.

On completion of this course the students should be able to:

1. describe the essential components of an operating system;
2. analyse the main components of three different types of OS;
3. evaluate the operating system against the user requirements.

The course has input links with the following courses: “Programming and Computer Applications”, “Computer Organization”,“Synthesis and Analysis of Algorithms“, “Programming Languages” and “Computer Architectures”;

It has output links with: “System Programming”, “Programming Environments” and “Real-Time Systems“ courses.
