The most commonly used quality measures of the ultrasound imaging systems are spatial resolution, contrast resolution, temporal resolution, and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The methods for improving the quality factors are: Compound imaging – reduces the multiplicative noise and as a result improves the contrast; Synthetic aperture imaging - improves the spatial and temporal resolutions; Coded excitation - improves the SNR and the maximal depth of penetration, by exciting the transducer with modulated signal.
